Some 10 years ago, I purchased a set of AyUps for my road bike, and at the time, the cost of the setup was almost half of the cost of my bike. It was a tough decision, but given the online reviews, it seemed worth it. Just yesterday, after 6 months of being without a bike because of a neck issue forcing sale and requiring a new bike that is vastly different set-up, I decided to pull my AyUps out of a drawer to see where they were up to. This 10 year old set that has seen thousands of km of riding, many recharge cycles, hikes, camps, road miles, MTB trails and numerous other uses, charged right up and looks fantastic. The casing is barely scratched, the pouch is good condition, and the cables showing almost no wear. Only the elastic attachment has given out, but that’s easy to fix! I hope in all the years of making these the quality has remained. These lights are simply second to none – they just work. I am so impressed, I’ll definitely be a repeat customer. Thanks for building a simply awesome product. Well done.
As others here have said, I’ve had the road bike set for 10 years. They’re incredble. Just keep going. Right up there with one of my all time best ‘tech’ purchases.
I just used my new ay-ups road lights and batteries tonight for the first time. Wow they are great. I have had the original ones since 2012 and have used two batteries in that whole time with the same light. So i can say they are very reliable lights. But I would like to confirm the new light is definitely 40% brighter than the old one. It is so much whiter too. The output of light on medium is more than the old one was on high, so very excited about that. I ride alone on country roads so its great to see the Kangaroos coming out of the bush now. Hah. They may not have the most lumen’s on the market but they will be plenty enough and will sure be still going in 5 years. Thanks Ay-ups well done.
I bought my Ayups in about 2009 with two of the half size batteries. They still last nearly as long as they did originally, very little reduction in run time after 11 years, they are still fantastic. I also regularly use them with a head mount for doing jobs around the house in dark corners or outside at night etc. I did have the rubber mount strap break after some years and the light bounced along the road. They hardly had a scratch and continued to work without any issue. A really solid and quality piece of equipment. By the looks of it, I will be leaving them to my grandchild.
Have previously written a review in 2016, but thought I would update. Recently had a crash at 40k plus and finished up on the road. The lights were attached to a Topeak bar extender. this snapped , light went flying down the road. Checked them out and they are still working fine, not like another make of light which I was also using. It was constructed mainly of plastic and clipped onto the handlebars using a plastic attachment. Unfortunately for me both broke and light etc is useless. Well done AYUP.
I have been using Ayup lights on my road bikes for 10 years now and I love them. I enjoy night rides on dark roads (to minimise traffic) and I love the confidence they give me. I get mistaken for a quiet motorbike sometimes. I haven’t tried any other brands but why would I?
I have had the Ayup light set for my road bike for over 10 years and I cant fault them.Super reliable charging system everytime. They are very light when mounted on the bars.Have ridden in foul weather mostly rain ,just an excellent lighting system. Perhaps not the brightest light on the market, but as I mentioned earlier very reliable and you never know may get another 10 yrs out of them.
I have owned 2 sets of AyUp lights after a strong recommendation from an MTB friend. The first set of lights I lost on the way to Mt Cootha one morning. Someone scored a free set of lights from my mistake. However, I replaced these and have had no issues with them. Especially bright on the dark early morning rides, I have to adjust them down when facing oncoming riders because of their intensity. Great when used in the blinking mode in daylight. Everyone remarks on their versatility and all-around usefulness. Will recommend to all riders.
I have used these for over 5 years (same set) day and night for commuting In London UK and Day rides at the week-ends Just 100%. Sure they are not cheap but just think what you get.If for some reason mine went on the “blink” I’d buy a new set tomorrow.
I bought a set of Ay Up lights for trail running in May 2016. After a while I decided it was time to get the handlebar attachment. My wife and I live on acreage with a couple of horses and even though the light is a bit too bright for them they get us safely around the place. Sometimes I use them when cutting the lawn at night when it’s a bit cooler or when the weekends are full. Truly a great product, one that I recommend to anyone who asks what type of light is the best. I have just purchased the helmet mount kits for the wife and I as I think we’ll pay a little more attention to MTB at night.
I feel compelled to write a review of my experience with Ay Up lights. I purchased two sets of Ay Up lights for my road bikes 15 months ago. I am extremely happy with the lights. The lights are simple to attach and give a superb light. I did however recently have an issue with one of the batteries. I followed the AY Up information and still the battery would not operate. I contacted Ay Up service and received a prompt reply. After following the instructions given I then was asked to return the battery for inspection. The battery was out of warranty, with in a few days I received a new battery. Fantastic after sales service. No quibbling or argument just honest service. Thank you Ay Up for a great product and even better after sales service.
Having just ordered a replacement mount and after reading these reviews, I felt compelled to agree wholeheartedly with fellow my Ayupers. I bought 2 sets of lights 8 years ago after a strong recommendation and they are still awesome. So awesome that I will not leave them on my bike unguarded at any time!!! Exceptional value. I have also learnt a few good tips from Charles 7/6/16….
I’m like a lot of users on here I originally purchased my lights from memory around 2011. They are still going strong until the other week when I was looking for my battery to charge them. Mmmmmm I said to myself I remember not long ago when I chucked out a battery charger pack as I was not sure what this belonged too, guess what it belonged too lol. Yep my aye up lights arghhhhh. So went online to buy another charger, I won’t be making that mistake twice now. These lights are the best, I got the pick that was in the bright orange case and I see they are still selling with the case awesome. I am now going to order another pair, if anyone is looking to purchase a lighting system for the bike, running or for what ever these are the lights to get hands down. Yes the outly is costly at the start, however like a lot of other users they have paid for themselves over the years. Well done on these lights
yes, you’re right. Its seems like a lot of money for lights.. they’re just lights! Let’s just say when my bike was stolen last week i considered the loss of the lights more traumatic than the bike itself. Constant companions for the past 6 years. No dramas at all for 20km commute each way, every day, week in week out, terrible weather, heavy rain, often pitch black on poor roads, potholes etc. you name it, ay ups deal with it. In my group of around 70 cyclists, 20+ have ay ups. No regrets at all. First class product. Frankly, if only everything else in life was as reliable…
I bought mine in 2011 approx – my wifee thought I was crazy spending so much money on a torch. I use it for cycling, running, midnight gardening(my neighbour thinks I am crazy) at work (health related) , pulling splinters out of the kids feet, camping, reading books at night, camping, finding the cat at night… You name it – best $250 I’ve ever spent. I decided to write this as my wife tonight just said to me, “you know, I wouldn’t mind one of those ayup torches for a present”. The beam on this thing is just amazing. And yes, I still easily get 6 hours out of it no worries. I haven’t yet looked through the latest range, but am looking forward to seeing how things have evolved. Hopefully the quality has been maintained. If you aren’t sure, just go and get one, you won’t regret it I’m sure. PS I have no commercial nor personal connection.
The best of best lights rock on…
Purchased a kit either 7 or 8 years ago. Chose the 6 hour battery. Ride for roughly an hour 6 days a week. Until recently have always had power left. Charge on a weekly basis. Now ,I am still getting in excess of 3 1/2 hours of power. Fantastic, hopefully when I purchase a new battery I get the same performance. As others have stated, expensive to purchase, but when all accounts taken into, no problems etc, is exceptional value.
I purchased my Ay-Ups some 6 years ago. I only use them once a year when I get involved in a charity event which includes night riding (obviously). OK, so they won’t be worn out with usage, but they have stood the test of time in that the battery has shown marvellous longevity considering the infrequent use. Anyway, compared to the cheaper lights that my companions use during this event, the Ay-Ups are bomb proof! Also, while my mates are “saving” heaps of money buying these cheaper lights, what’s the point when they have to buy a new set every other year? The battery is quite neat and easy to attach to the frame or stem. It’s also light enough that carrying it a rear pocket would NOT be annoying if you mounted the lights on your helmet. Even back 6 years ago the Ay-Ups came with pretty much everything you need. The kits have even more attachment options included nowadays. Simple to use. Have never failed me. Definitely work the investment!
I bought a set of these on the recommendation of someone in the Audax community. The are better than I had ever hoped! The service was first class. I cannot speak highly of the product and the service. I shall be buying a set for my son when he starts to ride at night
I purchased my kit 5 years ago. They are versatile, durable and extremely effective. What I love is that the lights themselves are very simple, not complex and no fuss. The accessories and mounts certainly set this kit apart from the rest. I use mine daily during winter rides and for bush walks, camping, home maintenance in the roof cavity… you got the idea. Five stars! happy trails.
Wow – these lights are amazing – I ordered my first set maybe five years ago – my son has taken possession of them so just ordered another set for me – The battery life is as it says – ie 3 hours – recharging not a problem (does take a while but who cares) I have been using them all this time and absolutely no issues – just great bright light.
We now have 2 sets of these lights in our house… all 4 of our bikes (2 road, and 2 MTB) have a handlebar attachment permanently attached, and both MTB helmets have the headset attachment on them, and we have 2 headtorch cradles available….We use them all the time in the winter as we both commute on rural (dark) roads at least a couple of times a week as well as being out on the moors on the MTB at the weekend. We’ve had them about 2 years now i think, and they’ve survived the worst of weather, being dropped (or us falling off our bikes!), and long cold days and they are still superb. There is nothing else on the market at the moment that is remotely comparable. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
I cannot speak highly enough of your product or your service. I saw these lights for the first time on an Audax UK event. I ordered them a couple of days later. Three days later they arrived on my desk on the other side of world. The instructions are clear, the packaging superb and the lights them selves light and very bright. Thank- you so much for the this system!
I have been using Ay Ups for the past year or so on my road bike. Previously I had several close calls with cars turning in front of me and since I have used Ay Ups, vehicles see me clearly, give me plenty of room and do not turn in front of me at all. This is during the daytime! At night this behaviour is magnified. In my opinion these lights are simply the best you can buy, they are light weight, extremely well made and pump out massive amounts of bright white light always. Whether you buy for safety or to light up dark roads at night, nothing compares.
These lights are bomb proof and incredibly bright! I’ve had mine for 3+ years already and they haven’t missed a beat. We used them in RAAM this year and found the battery life as good as described. For a no fuss, professional product which does exactly what it says on the tin; you cannot go wrong with these!
I have been using Ay Ups for just over a year now on my road bike. Nothing compares. The best quality on the market for being adjustable, light weight, bright white beams, that work four hours at a time. I would not buy anything else. From daylight to dark hills roads, these lights are outstanding.
Sir/ma’am, I don’t do many reviews, but when I come across an AMAZING product I feel compelled to do justice…I will say hands down these lights are OUTSTANDING from the packaging to the shipping. As far as the functionality, design and the ease (ok somewhat) ease of installation is also top-notch. I even ordered a few more mounts for my wife bike.
Absolutely fantastic product. Never had an issue with battery life and they would be getting on three years old now. Just charge after each ride and get a consistent 3 hrs out of them. Incredibly bright. I like how with the two lights you can set one light to look further ahead leave the other for more close in the pothole zone.
