Introducing the SLB-01 Serviceable Battery
Engineered by Ay Up Lighting Systems
Our new SLB-01 serviceable battery is the result of precision engineering and a commitment to quality. Designed with mass production in mind, each battery is assembled with consistent accuracy using nine custom-built jigs—ensuring every unit is built to the exact same high standard.
Each battery is composed of 25 precision parts, sourced from six countries, and assembled in-house by the experienced Ay Up Team. All wired connectors are both crimped and soldered directly to the circuit boards—no heat shrink, no temporary joiners—just robust, reliable connections housed in custom-designed casings.
We use only premium battery cells and a custom-built control circuit board. For ease of assembly and future servicing, all key components—including the battery cells and control board—connect via JST plug-and-play connectors.
From the fine soldering work to the semi-automated assembly and final sticker placement, attention to detail is second to none. Each battery is handled over 30 times and tested six times throughout the production process to ensure reliability and performance.
The precision-moulded casings and seals—manufactured in Australia—make the battery fully waterproof once assembled. Every unit is put through the same rigorous quality assurance process as our lighting systems before it leaves our facility.

The SLB-01 is fully serviceable, meaning you’ll never need to purchase an entirely new battery again. The battery cells, power button, and battery lead are treated as consumables and come with a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. All other components, including the control circuit board, are backed by a 5-year warranty.
Please note: Our batteries require proper care and regular use to maintain performance. We do not offer warranty coverage for batteries that fail due to misuse or improper storage, as outlined in our usage guidelines. If you plan to use the batteries only once or twice a year, these may not be the right choice for you. Our batteries perform best when used frequently. Please read and fully understand our care and usage guidelines before making a purchase.

Getting started
Operation:
Batteries are shipped with approx 40% charge. Please fully charge before first use.
- Push once to turn on
- Push once to cycle through modes – High, medium and low
- Push and hold for 1 second then release to turn off
- To enter flashing mode with the battery off, push and hold until flashing
- To exit flashing mode and to turn off, press once
- To enter fuel gauge with light on, push and keep button pressed in
- The light will flash – Once = Requires charging, Twice = OK, Three times = Fully charged
- To exit from fuel gauge simply release the button and the light will return to the same power mode

I’ve been running Ayup lighting systems for running, mountain biking and commuting since 2012. My batteries are still going strong. I’ve bought a few cheapy aldi lights in the mean time just out of curiosity and confirmed, you get what you pay for. Ayup are the pinnacle of outdoor activity lighting. Thanks ayup. I want to buy more but your kits won’t die!

Bought these back 07/08? Reviewed 2018 and now, yet again. Still going, as good, have absolutely hammered them, lost a light after spill, found it with a Metal detector, 2 weeks later, buried in wet mud, cleaned and still fine. BRILLIANT! AM LOOKING AT GETTING LATEST SET. CAN ONLY RECOMMEND HIGHLY!

I’ve been using Ay-Ups on my winter commute for about 10 years since finding out about them from a Canadian colleague and love them. In that time only one battery has died. I’ve rescued 2 others – where the cable was becoming faulty at one end or the other – by using Sugru (a moldable plastic and another product I highly recommend). I started with a kit and when not on my bike I use one of the lights on the headband for outdoor activities. My investment has well and truly payed off in dollar value and in the confidence that the lights will get me home on these dark, cold winter evenings.

I purchased my Ay Up lighting system so long ago I don’t remember when it was. It is a fantastic light, which I use for road cycling. I would not want to be out after dark without it. The new batteries are much improved. The Customer service is A+. The company and the product are first class.

Bought my set (twin lights) way back, 2006/7? Use them for riding, dog walking, shooting and for my work on highways on nightshift and just about anything. Lights, Batteries (2x3hr, 2x6hr)still going strong and exceeding duration times. One cable had crack appear a battery junction, repaired and still so impressed. Well done AY UP!

I love my Ayups, my Wife and I have several sets. The only change I would like to see is a fourth light setting of around 50 lumens so that one battery would last many hours for a backpacking trip.

I bought my first set of Ayup lights back in about 2009/10. I have been using the same set plus additional sets since then for Audax rides of up to 1200km, as camp lights on bike tours, for commuting and more. They’re still as good as ever. I recently had to order a replacement for the nearly ten year old charging unit but other than that the batteries and lights have performed flawlessly.

This is a review of the Ay-Up team’s customer service: After a few years of good use my battery died (no doubt an inherent risk of any battery) and I contacted the Ay-Up team despite being out of warranty period. The Team were fantastic with their quick and helpful communication, testing of my battery and subsequent assistance in ordering a new battery (aka this battery). I recommend going through this channel if you have a similar issue. I found the Team’s service (like their product) to be tops. P.s. I never write reviews…ever! (so hopefully this means a little more to you, the reader)
